Chomp Supply: What's your favourite food? Why?
Jessica: Mexican
CS: What's your favourite vacation spot? Why?
J: Jamaica. Love the music, the vibe and it’s beautiful!
CS: Tell us a bit about yourself and your family
J: We are a family of three. Our daughter just turned two and we have a shih tzu too.
CS: Describe your creative style
J: Natural with a bit of bling
CS: How did you get into crafting?
J: When our daughter began solids, she was diagnosed anaphylactic to dairy and egg. She also was diagnosed with a rarer form of an allergy called FPIES. Basically anything she could eat she vomit till she went into shock. So we had to trial foods for weeks at a time. She reacts to oats, banana and blueberry. Due to this, we have to know every ingredient that goes in her mouth. We couldn’t trust teething products in stores because we didn’t know for sure if they were safe. So I researched products and companies and began making things for her. Slowly for friends, then Facebook friends and then markets. She hasn’t outgrown any allergies so this is our life still. I have taken an extended leave from work to care for her. So this is my path now and I love making things that I know are safe!
CS: What was the first thing you ever made?
J: A teething ring
CS: What project/product are you most proud of?
J: I am most proud of our bunny teething rings, as I wasn’t great at sewing before!
CS: What does your current work space look like?
J: Upside down for market prep!! Mixed with toddler toys.
CS: What does your dream work space look like?
J: I have it!
CS: How do you balance work and home life?
J: I work only when my little is sleeping. I don’t do back to back markets anymore on weekends either.
CS: Where do you see your business going in the next five years?
J: I’m not sure but the sky is the limit!
CS: What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own small business?
J: Research & don’t give up!
CS: What do you love most about Chomp?
J: Selection of course!
CS: What would you like to see Chomp carry in the future?
J: Larger inexpensive teethers
